How to help your newborn gain weight.

Hey Mamas and Papas
My elder sister had premature twins weighing 4 pounds each.
She had a hard time raising them but now both of them are super healthy teens.
Even my baby was underweight. His birth weight was 5 pounds. But now after 7 weeks he is 9 pounds :)
Below are some tips which were both used by me and my elder sister

Note:- We arent any medical experts. And every child is different. These tips are based on personal experience. Kindly follow on your own risk.

#1 Waking baby up for feeds.
New borns tend to sleep more during the first few weeks of life.  But if your baby is underweight you should wake him up for feeds. Feed him every two hours or whenever he wants, whichever is earlier.

#2 Coconut Oil massage.
Coconut oil is very beneficial for underweight babies, i used to massage my baby 3 to 4 times everyday with pure coconut oil. A study proves that babies who were massaged 4 times a day with coconut oil tend to gain more weight than babies massaged with mineral oil.

#3 Breastfeed your baby, ofcourse.
While formula milk doesn't hurt on gaining weight,  it is best to give your baby breast milk. Skin to skin contact while breastfeeding improves weight gain. If the baby doesnt latch or some other circumstances makes it difficult for you to breastfeed him,  consider exclusively pumping then.

#4 Pump after feeding
Chances are high that your baby had foremilk instead of high fat hindmilk, pump after feeding your baby and store the hindmilk in refrigerator for next feed. This way you can supplement with your own milk.

Thats all you can do for your baby's weight gain. Give it time. Everything is going to be fine.  :)
